California Health Care Safety Net Institute

QLA Webinar Series
For more than 15 years, the QLAs have honored hundreds of innovative and creative strategies employed by California public hospital systems to improve patient care and enhance the capacity to advance community health. This year, CAPH and SNI wanted to provide an opportunity for other CAPH-member institutions to learn more about QLA honorees through the QLA Webinar Series. Featuring three QLA programs, these webinars will provide participants with an in-depth look into the successful initiatives with an opportunity for Q&A.

Kicking off the web-conference series on March 26th was Kern Medical Center’s Impact of Clinical Pharmacists Involvement in Direct Patient Care as Mid-Level Practitioners. Demonstrating reduced hospital admissions and ER visits by 78.9% for diabetes-related complications and a reduction in drug-to-drug interactions by 40%, KMC's Ryan Gates, Pharm.D. conducted the presentation.  Click here to playback the presentation.

The second webinar on April 21st highlighted San Francisco General Hospital/UCSF’s Automated Telephone Self-Management Support Model for Diabetes program, which earned them a Top Honors award for the 2009 QLAs.  The presentation was conducted by Dean Schilllinger, MD, UCSF Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine Director and UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations Chair and his associate Margaret Handley, adjunct professor at UCSF and co-director of the UCSF collaborative research network.  Click here to playback this presentation, or view the PDF here.
